My-Bodyguard uses a combination of global positioning (GPS) and cellular communications technologies to produce a discrete, easy to use, personal alarm that can calculate the user's location to within just 5m. The GPS locators communicate using any available GSM cellular phone network. The device is worn on the belt or in the clothing of the user so a GPS antenna which will operate in close proximity to human tissue (Sarantal Geo-Helix) was chosen. The tough, lightweight My-Bodyguard device roams on to any GSM network to transmit the user's location. In certain applications, live sound is also transmitted to allow the user to describe the threat or assistance required, or the operator to simply listen-in to the situation. Potential users include handicapped and elderly people, children, lone workers and VIPs. The Sarantel Geohelix antenna has a very small near-field which allows it to function close to RF transmitters (like the GSM transmitter inside the unit) or signal absorbing bodies such as living tissue, metal structures or buildings with no negative impact on performance. The antenna’s ability to work upside-down means that the device can get accurate GPS locations even when the user has fallen down or is in a difficult situation.

The Navicom C Trac GPS locators have a unique geofence feature which can be used to report to authority or control center when the object is out of the pre-defined area. The Navicom C Trac GPS locators have a built in high sensitivity GPS receiver which can provide indoor and under bridge location capability where normal GPS is unable to do so. The Navicom C Trac GPS's main goal is to help the reduction of missing children, kidnapping, providing help for critical situations where immediate assistance is a must. This portable GPS locators measure 70 x 40 x 20 mm and have a built in Lithium Ion rechargeable battery.
GuardianLion says it has introduced the world's first GPS Panic Button device with Indoor tracking capability; Amber Alarm. It utilizes SiRF GPS technology . Dead reckoning and multi-path filtering make that the device will work under thick foliage, in narrow streets with high buildings and often even indoors and in a vehicle. Geo-fencing can be used to program an invisible parameter around the child's school walking route or neighborhood safe playing area. Removal of the child from any of these designated zones would automatically trigger a silent alert and location information would be sent immediately to 911 services. Geo-fencing areas can be updated at any time by the parent or guardian.
Visao, a Teletouch Communications company, has developed the LifeGuard II personal monitoring system. Using wireless telemetry, GPS and machine-to-machine (M2M) asset monitoring and reporting technology, the LifeGuard II GPS locators, which are approximately the size of a PDA, can be worn on the individual's person. It features automatic reporting capabilities that will notify emergency personnel in the event that an individual becomes immobile or registers symmetrical motion (such as an electrical worker swinging upside down from the utility access crane). Also, if an individual encounters an emergency situation, he or she can trigger the device manually to signal an alert. Emergency personnel will be able to know where the individual is located and respond immediately to that location. Other parameters, including medical history and known medication allergies of the wearer, can be programmed into the software to ensure the proper medical care is given. LifeGuard II GPS locators work in connection with Visao's mapping and report- generation software, GeoFleet. Users can set up boundaries and program the LifeGuard II unit to report when a worker, contractor or visitor has crossed into an unauthorized area.
From SBES is the TRACER, a GPS/GSM system that gives you fast, pinpoint accuracy when you need it most. Protecting anyone, anywhere and at any time, it automatically notifies an emergency response team of the incident, its identity and location within seconds. It employs the latest GPS/GSM technology and incorporates a comprehensive worldwide tracking system. The system comprises a portable device, worn by the worker, that can send a signal to a communications unit in the vehicle.
The personal unit is activated either manually by the person with a problem or automatically in the event of incapacitation, as triggered by a tilt sensor. Inside the vehicle, the TRACER unit detects the alarm signal and instantly contacts the system’s operations station via the GSM network, detailing the identity and location by use of the GPS system. This is instantly passed to anyone designated by the user, typically a Security or Health & Safety Officer or a call center. The vehicle can be tracked anywhere in the world. Once the driver has left the vehicle, his lone worker tilt unit will operate up to 1000 meters from the vehicle.

From Canada comes the LifeSaver (www.lifesavergps.com) Inmarsat D+/GPS satellite transceiver. Developed for farmers who work alone, in remote areas without cell phone coverage. The transceiver is typically mounted on the roof of a farm vehicle, a tractor, a grain truck or a combine. The remote control unit, carried by the driver, has four color-coded buttons and uses a radio frequency signal to communicate with the transceiver. As Inmarsat D+ offers virtual global coverage, the LifeSaver can be used in almost all remote areas of the world.
Using the Globalstar Communication Satellite network, Safety-Star from Premier GPS provides additional safety for workers who may be deployed in hazardous and/or remote areas. The GPS locators are ideal for workers in forestry, oil and gas, remote construction, mining, border protection, fish and wildlife, rural and urban police, law enforcement, the military and government agencies, who work where cellular or traditional radio communications are not available. The GPS locators operate via a small remote control fob, similar to those used to remotely un-lock vehicle doors, to facilitate a check-in procedure with the main unit located in the worker's truck, car or quad/atv. The fob is intrinsically safe and is approved by the Canadian Standards Association and the Underwriters Laboratory.
All Satamatics' tracking devices operate over Inmmarsat's satellite network. Also their new Personnel Tracker, which operates worldwide and is ideal for individuals in remote areas where cell phone coverage is limited or even non-existent. These GPS locators are compatible for use with PDAs, so users can use the Personnel Tracker for 2-way communications and upgrade their firmware as they travel. Coupled with some online mapping services it is also possible for those at home to keep track of their loved ones and monitor their progress on their travels.
